Pendant Luminaire

Will Pickering's Spingere lamp applies dynamic LED media to a cord-suspended architectural fixture. This is a luminaire that can be watched, but its primary function is to provide exceptional quality light. The warm and diffuse light it casts renders color accurately and is completely free of flicker. It can be made blazingly bright for task lighting, or dimmed down to a fraction of a candlepower while maintaining a full dynamic range for content. Controlled over wifi from any browser, it can display both static and moving content. Dynamic media is composed so the overall light output stays constant and loops seamlessly.

Spingere's shape is reminiscent of the classic spun metal pendant, only the center where the bulb used to go now houses electronics and the shade is made of 32 gently curving, luminous blades. The form is held in equilibrium by the internal stresses of its flexible materials - raw Kapton and fiberglass circuits, and an outer aluminum hoop. The lightweight and functionally driven design is both biological and industrial.
